Christmas Day

and

a close up!

Hi Shazza,

I was inspired by the soft lighting in the painting that made the whole scene look a little blurry and ethereal.  I chose some darker papers and a blurry photograph, and softened the edges with gentle distressing.  I made my own Christmas trees with coordinating paper and stitching.  I couldn't find a way to add a snowman, but I thought the white spots on the patterned papers lent a snowy effect to the layout.

Kind regards, Karen

Come Meet our Guest DT member for the month of December.....

Karen B

Hi :)  My name is Karen, and I've been scrapbooking for almost seven years.  I live in a semi-rural area in south-east Queensland, Australia, with my husband, 10 year old daughter and two guinea pigs.  I work full time and to relax I enjoy gardening, sewing and scrapbooking.

I've been making albums and decorating journals with memorabilia since I was little, but I first started 12x12 scrapbooking in 2004 or 2005 when I needed an album for some special photographs.  I discovered a scrapbooking store with more papers than I ever imagined - "real" 12x12 scrapbooking products!  I sought out an online forum to find out more... and I've been out of control ever since!

What I love about scrapbooking, is that it ticks all the boxes.  It's a way to preserve my photographs and memories in a meaningful way; a creative outlet; it's tactile and fun; there's no rules!  I've been so fortunate to meet some wonderful people through scrapbooking, both online and in real life, who have become very dear friends.

Thank you so much for having me as a guest designer at ARTastic this month!

I'd love you to visit me at http://beingkaren.blogspot.com

Longing for Christmas

Hi Shazza!

When I saw this Thomas Kinkade painting I had a feeling of wanting to be part of something or longing for something (to join the celebration in that house) and I thought of our daughter who is longing for Christmas this time of the year! The title of my layout is “Longing for Christmas”. I added a lot of different “Christmas-embellishments” to symbolize everything that she is longing for (which includes a snowman and a Christmas tree). To capture the colors in the painting I chose to use a patterned paper in light green (with Christmas pattern) as a background. I used some yellow mist to create some “light” and white gesso to create “snow”. If you look close you can see the yellow “light” as stars trough the “snow”.

Take care!

Cheers Helene

Merry Christmas Tag

Hello Shazza.  Here is my submission for the december inspiration.  Again, I wanted to do something different so I decided to make a "Merry Christmas" tag.  I hope it will give inspiartion to those who do not scrap and want to join in the challenge.  There are Christmas trees on my dp and of course my super cute snowman and Merry Christmas is stamped on the bottom of the tag.  The white snowflake is crocheted by my Mom.  She sends me goodies every so often;0)  I just like to hoard them because they are all so pretty.  Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday!  Hugs xx

 Our Christmas Song

Hi Shazza,
Here is my December challenge. Having summer for our Christmas I always find Christmas themes hard to scrap, so it took a while to think of a suitable page that would fit all the demands, but I did it. I have pictures from the Snowman book, there is a Christmas tree on a piece of pp and the word Christmas is in the title.
This page is of our family  Christmas trip to England back in 2006. The kids fell in love with the DVD The Snowman, and the music to it was so magical just like our trip through England.  I wish all at Artastic, followers and design team members a wonderful Christmas and fantastic year ahead full of lots of scrapbooking.

Here is Debi Clark's submission for December.....

There's No Business Like SNOW Business

Well, the Christmas month is now here & all the
preparations are underway for our family to meet.
Hope you are hanging up the stockings too Shazza!

I have attached my December LO based on Thomas
Kinkaid's warm winter painting...love the
homeliness & happiness it exudes.

I have chosen some photos of our visit to the UK in
December 2005, meeting up with our Jade. We came
from our hot aussie summer to really cold, then
an icy cold winter...us aussie's didn't know what
hit us!! Here we are in Lincoln, after finding a
lovely hotel for the night with heavy snow all
around...and it was beautiful!

I have used all the criteria on my page - a snowman,
a small Christmas tree in the journaling tag &
my title is No Business Like Christmas Snow
Business.

Wishing all the lovely gals on the team, & all
our wonderful players a bright & cheery Christmas,
& safe New Year.

Cheers, Deb xx

Here is Helene's submission for the month....

Helene Bogren - Team Building at Daddy's Work

Hi Shazza!

First I must say that I feel so happy and honored to be a new member of the ARTastic DT! Thanks a lot for the opportunity!

I had a lot of fun with this layout. As I couldn’t find any appropriate embellishments that I liked I chose to create some fruits myself. I draw them by hand on patterned paper and colored them with Distress Ink to make a 3 D effect. The grapes are made using Paper Piecing technique. Inspired by the painting I also wanted to have some black/dark colors and white on the background. I used mist in three dark colors (purple, brown and green) as well as black mist and ink. The white fabric is represented by the white doily. As the pictures are taken in a cottage in the countryside and not in a “Baccus milieu” I added some tree patterned paper as photo mats and some deer (thought the deer needed some explanation… ;)

Cheers Helene

Come meet our newest DT member at ARTastic.......

Helene Bogren

BIO:
I have always loved playing with colors in different ways, which has resulted in hobbies like interior design, to design and sew clothing, and gardening/garden design. When I found out about scrapbooking that quickly became my new passion! I just love the colors, patterned papers, trims, embellishments, mists, and so on… When scrapping I like to use a lot of different mist, ink, acrylic paint, gesso, masks, and stamps on the background. I also like to use dies and punches, and to cluster the embellishments. I LOVE challenges and when I create for a challenge I try to capture the feeling in the picture, and not only to pick up the colors. I think that makes it even more fun!

I live in south of Sweden (with my husband and our almost three year old daughter). Since I started my blog I have found out that scrapping has a fantastic side effect – you get to know people from all over the world and gain insight into what it’s like to live in other places! I love that! So of course I hope that you will pop into my blog and write a few words – and perhaps become a follower..!

Jane's submission for the month....

Jane Howden - Relax

Our Guest Design Team Member for November is........

Jane Howden

Hello everyone.  I’m Jane Howden.  I live on the beautiful central coast of NSW with my husband and two children.  I have been busy producing both paper and digital layouts based around my family and myself for about seven years now and scrapbooking has become my form of creative therapy. I feel it is important to document our lives for future generations as well as for ourselves.   My style is always evolving as I try new techniques but I tend to lean towards a linear style with a clean, simple look.

One of the things I enjoy most is a good challenge so I feel very honoured to be guest designer on ARTastic this month. I’m sure you will agree we all have way too much “stuff” in our stashes and a good scrappy challenge is the perfect opportunity to use some of them up!  The added bonus is you get to see the results in some inspirational layouts produced by wonderfully talented woman from all over the world (and you might get to win a prize along the way!).

Please visit me on my blog - http://scrappiecesofme.blogspot.com/

Here is Sarah's submission for November......

Sarah Rogers -Barossa Valley

Hi Shazza,
Here is my page for the November challenge.
One of the things I love about living in Adelaide is living so close to the Barossa Valley, I do like my drop of red.  The painting of Bacchus very much suited a winery page, the grapes, the bottle and glass of wine and the little black bow on the journaling tag. A couple of months ago at a craft fair I was lucky enough to come across the grape vine chipboard, perfect for this page. Look forward to seeing what others have come  up with.

Here is Lynnda's submission....

Lynnda Hosni - Spring

Debi Clark's submission.....

Deb Clark -Wine, Woman and Song

Hi dear Shazza,

Please find my page title Wine, Women & Song from
this great inspiration of Bacchus, by Careveggio.
Love the rich colours & sumptuous feel to the
painting.

I have chosen a photo of my Jade & her 'friends'
at Mde Tussards, & used that rich style colour
to accentuate the photos.
I have made my own grapes, using my Copic Markers,
have wineglasses in both photos & a wineglass
embellie, & have made a paper bow, that my friend
calls 'a bow, when you cant tie bows'!

I hope we get a wonderful group of players this month.
I think a great inspiration.

Thank you for organising this fab blog as usual.

Cheers, Deb

Chantelle's submission......

Chantelle Huizenga - Journey

Hi Shazza, I’ve attached my LO for the November challenge.

I’ve used the criteria as embellishments; printing out some vintage cards with pictures of the grapes and wine bottle.  Thanks – this was a fun challenge.

Have a great weekend.

Chantelle
