A November tutorial ...

Introducing a beautiful page and inspirational process video by team member Kripa Koushik based on our November artwork - Landing by  Poncho Army.
CRITERIA - Use a BLACK background

Two aspects of the painting by Poncho Army stood out for me – blue and yellow against a black background and an imagined movement of the bird landing on the lone tree branch.

So I selected shades of blue and yellow with a few pastel colours to balance. Inspired by the vibrancy of the painting, I chose these two photographs of my boys engaged in a screaming match which was their idea of fun!

I’ve used many different chipboard pieces behind the photographs (numbers) to frame the pictures (polaroid frames) and as embellishments (arrows & words).

I hope you enjoy the video.

And then it was November ...

Welcome to November and a new challenge here at ARTastic.

This month our inspiration comes to you from Poncho Army with Landing.

CRITERIA - Use a BLACK background

A little about Poncho Army ...

Trina Collins, who works under the pseudonym Poncho Army, is an artist who isn’t afraid to get some paint under her fingernails. Known for her detailed line work, precision cut stencils and signature splatter paint skies, she has appeared in numerous gallery shows, been a finalist in multiple art prizes.  The central theme for Poncho Army’s art is the exploration of contrasts – between urban and rural spaces, between internal and external realities, between melancholy and joy. She loves to capture youthful innocence and often draws upon her experiences growing up in a shrinking rural landscape to gather inspiration for her work.

This year we are putting the ART back into ARTastic and our main prize each month will reflect that - this month featuring amazing products from Kaisercraft.

And as always a lovely prize pack for our random draw winner ...

And now some beautiful inspiration from the first of our team ...

MARIA
My challenge is quite simple. Black background, bright strips and cute photo.

JUDY
The striking colours of the bird on the black background in the artwork are stunning and have inspired my colour choice and the photo. I took the photo recently when the cheeky cockatoo "joined us for lunch"!

TRACEY
I loved this new sugar skull piece from Memory Maze chipboard and couldn't wait to use it. The black background criteria for this months challenge was perfect. I even found an old set of basic grey chipboard that I used to embellish this. Love when I use up old stash with new stash.

ELAINE
I chose to use the blue and yellow of the painting in my layout. My background is made with gesso coloured with mist.

TANYA
I loved the pop of yellow in this painting too.

EVELYN
I was inspired by the bold colors and chose pink and the blue of the bird.
